WELCOME TO
Le Piano
Set in the sweeping countryside just 5 minutes from the charming town of Duras, this beautiful, architecturally-designed country house, with its delightful garden and unique swimming pool, is a serene retreat. Its location on a hilltop offers stunning 360-degree panoramic views.
The extraordinarily bright, single-storey villa was designed by a Dutch architect who managed to capture the beautiful, lush landscape within the total privacy of the garden, swimming pool and residence. He blended it into a beautiful property, where everything is just right. It was formerly the holiday home of a famous dutch pianist, Louis van Dijk, whose grand piano still stands in the living room. The peaceful, romantic atmosphere of the villa and its surroundings were a major source of inspiration for the famous pianist. A place to feel right at home.
This spacious (225 m²) holiday villa offers a high-quality, compact, fully-equipped kitchen, a living room and a dining room that all lead out onto the terrace and into the garden. The numerous patio doors open up, making it very easy to enjoy an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. The architecture, featuring wooden beams, vaulted passages, alcoves and walkways, is a nod to the past but with modern touches. The atmosphere is warm and soothing. The living room, for instance, has a beautiful high beam ceiling and is equipped with all modern conveniences such as TV, DVD, Bluetooth speaker and Wi-Fi. The three bedrooms each have their own bathroom and French doors. These lead to the beautifully landscaped garden with plenty of mature trees and plants and a nice lawn. Next to the house, the lovely deck invites you to relax with a good book or refreshing drink beneath the canopy. The lounge opens onto a charming dining terrace where you can enjoy tasty dishes straight from the Weber BBQ under the covered pergola.
The absolute highlight of this holiday home is the magnificent swimming pool! It measures no less than 12 x 5 metres and has a unique shape with a beautiful sun terrace surrounding it. At the end of the pool, an eye-catching designer waterfall makes it even more appealing to take a refreshing dip and to savour the view which stretches as far as the eye can see.

The T. Family UK, from September 23rd to September 30th
We have had a fabulous time at Le Piano. The house itself is beautiful, just as advertised but in reality far much better and exceeded our expectations. We have spend mots days by the pool and in the pool, having experienced great weather, taking full advantage of the equipment and facilities available to us at the Villa. The surroundings and grounds are stunning providing us a relaxing and peaceful . We are very sad to be leaving after a very memorable and enjoyable holiday. We will definitely looking to book an other holiday here as soon as we can.
The B. Party, UK from September 16th to September 23rd
We already came a few years ago. Nothing much has changed within this walls, around Duras or within France.Frédéric as helpful as ever. The perennial aide. We look forward to each visit, availability ( this villa and ours ) depending. Thanks as ever for enabling our visit and to the dedicated team who prepare and clean in preparation. Much appreciated
The K. Family UK, from September 9th to September 16th
My wife and I, along with our eldest granddaughter, spent a truly memorable week at Maison Baleyssagues. For an introduction to the region of unspoilt bastide towns of upper Lot-et Garonne, eastern Gironde and Dordogne, Le Piano provides a superb base. It commands a beautiful panoramic view of the open countryside in all directions, which includes the extraordinary Château de Duras, itself an unmissable example of national, regional and local dedication to conservation of cultural heritage. Celebrated names like Saint Emilion, Bergerac, Sarlat-la-Canéda and Bordeaux, itself, also feature in a list of must-see’s offering a variety of attractions for every taste – and all within manageable reach. (Speaking of taste, do not miss le Pain de maïs at the boulangerie in Duras. It is to die for, easy to cut into toast-able slices and retains its moistness for a week.) (Frederic will vouch for this.) We cannot praise the villa without including its Property Manager, Frederic Guiraud, most welcoming and helpful, and always available at request on short notice. His welcome pack is the most thoughtful and generous we have ever encountered over many years of villa rentals in France. He has managed to compile a bound guide book featuring excellent introductions and practical visitor information on a multitude of towns and notable sites throughout the region. It obviously reflects considerable work and must be the most comprehensive visitor guide we have experienced anywhere. As for the villa, itself, it does justice to all the pictures you will have seen in the property listing. We found it impeccably clean and in excellent repair. We thoroughly enjoyed eating outside on the terraces, luxuriating and playing in and by the pool and feasting on the views, especially in the evenings after a busy day of touring. The beautifully tuned piano must also be mentioned for those who enjoy playing on a fine instrument or just gently tinkling for leisurely entertainment.
The K. Family UK from July 8th to July 15th 2023
We have been holidaying in this area from over 30 years and without doubt, this is one of the most special places we have stayed in. We plan to return next summer !
The A. Family UK, from May 10th to May 27th
We can honestly say that Le Piano is the best property that we have stayed in in France. The photographs on the website do not really do the house justice. It is located in a wonderful elevated position, with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The house is equipped to a very high standard with an abundance of crockery and cutlery. There were so many lovely touches, with fresh flower arrangements in several rooms and the best welcome pack we have ever had in our seven years of visiting France. Thanks Frédéric for welcoming us to the Villa and looking after us during our stay. Can you pass on our thanks to the owners for allowing us to stay in their lovely home.
The S. family UK, from April 28th to May 9th
We are returning guest since now more than 5 years. We love Le Piano and Frédéric ! We love everything in the house and all the different changes/improvement in the house due to new ownership. Pool remain the same with its impressive shape ! The only negative point is that the house is rapidly fully booked !!!
Mei
Prachtige villa op een groot stuk grond. Mooie inrichting en zeer goed verzorgd/onderhouden. Soepele communicatie met 'property manager' Frédéric.
September 17th to September 24th - Tim and Joana UK
As regular visitors we choose this area for over 30 years. This is without doubt the loveliest property we ever had. The location and settings are glorious. We loved to sat in every places of the garden and at different times of the day. Loved the relaxing and beautiful pool area, enjoyed the tasteful but functional rooms and cooked every night in this well appointed kitchen. All the small touches and details show great level of consideration from the owners. Thank you so much Frederic has been welcoming and helpful it was lovely to come back and we hope to return at least once next year.
September 3rd to September 10th - The A. Family Edinburgh, UK
This is a lovely villa. Probably one of the best appointed in which we have ever stayed. The pool and outdoor areas are just delightful. Our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter enjoyed picking up wonderful plums and playing with the games and toys in the little library. Adults enjoyed the beautiful view end is sunsets. How peaceful our surroundings where especially when we are used to the traffic noise of city ! Special thanks to Frederic who helped us where we had a little medical emergency.
August 27th to September 3rd - Peter and Claire, Hertfordshire, UK
This was our sixth visit to Le Piano - it really is a perfect place to stay! The villa was as comfortable and elegant as always with lots of stylish new touches that we enjoyed. There’s everything a family can possibly need from games and books to a wonderful new kitchen to fantastic grounds to walk and play in. The pool in particular was well used as it was so hot during our visit. It's a lovely place to swim and relax. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and offers lots of fun and interesting places to visit with some great restaurants nearby. Particular favourites to eat for us are La Terrasse in Duras and Restaurant Italian Des Arcades in Eymet. The night market in Duras is also well worth a visit to try local wines and food. This was our sixth visit to the villa but it won’t be our last!
June 25th to July 9th - Mrs F., London UK
Le Piano is lovely. It’s as nice as the photos, the beds are super comfortable, the kitchen very well equipped and the pool area and outside terraces are charming, one with wonderful views and sunsets. The property manager is extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help with some issues we had. Thank you! We’ll be back.
June 18th to June 25th - The Russel B. family, UK
The most enjoyable part of France. The most enjoyable stay in 'luxe' villa. Highlights:
Fresh veg from Duras market on Monday.
Eating out at Eymet, almost any restaurant will do, but particular favourites are Cour d’Eymet and Château les Vigiers.
Watching the red kites hunting over the fields in the evening.
The lizards and the gecko on the patio.
June 4th to June 18th - The C. Family, UK
We’ve had an amazing two weeks at this gorgeous property. On arrival we have been overwhelmed by the beauty of the house and it’s surroundings. It has been lovingly designed to a very high standard and certainly has the 'wow' factor on arrival. Frederic and the staff were very helpful and made our stay very special. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us. Best wishes.
May 14th to May 28th - Tim and Clare, London, UK
Thank you Nick and Tessa for the most fantastic two weeks in your wonderful house. Frederic was a star. We relaxed properly for the first time in a long while. Ate delicious food quaffed too much wine and swam all day in your pool. We hope to return one day.
OUR TIPS FOR THE AREA
Lot-et-Garonne
This property is located in the Lot-et-Garonne; just south of the Dordogne. The landscape is beautiful with gently rolling hills, cypresses, vineyards, fruit trees and sunflower fields. The name of the department says it all: not only the Garonne flows through the department, but also the beautiful Lot, a lovely river for canoeing, swimming or picnicking on one of the beaches along the bank. There are more than 400 marked cycle and hiking trails and during the summer you can go to the famous "marchés gourmand"; evening markets where the products offered by the local producers in their market stalls are eaten at long tables. This is also the region where the idea of the popular food markets comes from.
