In the heart of the Perigord Noir, just under Sarlat, you will find your dream holiday home Le Prieuré de Fénelon. This historic place offers luxury, a stunning view and piece and quiet. The heated pool and sun terrace together with the high quality services guarantee a relaxed vacation in France. When we walked through the main gate, the beauty of the ancient courtyard and lovely house opened our eyes. A little hidden gem.
Le Prieuré de Fénelon dates back to the 17th century and has been sympathetically and loving restored by the Rougié family. It is situated on top of a hill overlooking the rolling hills of the Dordogne valley and the impressive Château de Fénelon. This French countryside offers many chateaux and ancient villages. Le Prieuré de Fénelon (x8 guests) has great possibilities for larger groups since it can be rented with 3 neighboring houses: La Métairie de Fénelon (x10 guests), L’Ostalet de Fénelon (x2 guests) and the possibility to accommodate an additional (x2 guests) in the small holiday cottage on site La Petite Maison, creating a charming little private village.
The former presbytery Le Prieuré de Fénelon can accommodate 8 people and has been tastefully decorated with an eye for detail and in line with the historical elements. The subtle combination of medieval furniture and some Orient inspired furniture create a unique and warm atmosphere. The authentic architecture of the building, the large rooms with monumental fireplaces, walls of natural stone and wooden beamed ceilings breathe the atmosphere of times gone by.
Through the old gate you enter the paradisiacal courtyard, from where beautiful stone steps lead you to the dining room and the adjoining kitchen. You also have a second professional (summer) kitchen (cuisine d' été) which makes it delicious to eat with the whole party outside on the covered terrace. Special attention has been paid to the design of the kitchens so that you can fully enjoy culinary delights. Cutlery and crockery are made of silver and porcelain and beautiful glasses complete it all for an elegant dinner or festive meal. The charcoal barbecue also offers countless possibilities for lovers of a cosy BBQ. Private catering service available!
The beautifully paved courtyard with ornate fountain also offers access to the 17th century chapel (a multifunctional space for weddings and parties or for business gatherings), a private heated swimming pool and the beautiful gardens. Here you have a sublime view of the valley and the neighbouring Château de Fénelon.

During the day you can fully enjoy the sun and the beautiful views. But Le Prieuré also offers plenty of opportunities for the active guest. Cooking courses are available on request (also for children!) and you can learn how to make a truly French baguette in the local Boulangerie. You can hire bicycles on site to explore the area after you have enjoyed the excellent breakfast service. Take part in a private summer body flexibility class (mix of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates), opt for a workout with the private fitness instructor or alternatively book a relaxing and energising massage.

The main rooms
The Lounge - Dining Room
The large dining room, embellished with a grand stone fireplace leads to the lounge with a working open fireplace.TV: Satellite TV enables guests to view all French channels and certain international channels. The main lounge is equipped with a 42” plasma screen. The lounge adjoining the Fénelon suite has its own TV as do the Montaigne and La Boétie bedrooms.
Hifi/DVD: The main lounge is equipped with a home cinema (42” plasma screen and DVD). A HK Lucas Performer music system (compatible with media devices, for example an iphone etc) which allows guests to enjoy their choice of music in high and professional definition with excellent acoustics.
FREE WiFi Access: High Speed Internet access is offered to guests via the computer of the house. Guests with laptops can access their emails and the web via the wireless connection.
Telephone: Guests are able to receive and make local and national calls. Mobile phone reception is good for both GSM and GPRS systems.
The Kitchens
The Upstairs Kitchen: Is equipped with a four ring induction hob, traditional oven, microwave, dishwasher and large fridge freezer. Cutlery and crockery are of silver and porcelain respectively, beautiful glasses completes the service to allow guests to entertain in elegant style.Summer Kitchen: This principal kitchen is professionally equipped throughout. It has a professional range with four gas jets, oven and accessories. The kitchen also includes two induction hobs, microwave, two fridges, an ice cube machine and a dishwasher. The dinner service has been specifically chosen with outdoor dining and the proximity of the pool in mind.
Outside: A charcoal BBQ and electric plancha are available.

Bedroom La Boétie
Air conditioned with two large beds (140cm x 190cm) which comfortably sleep two adults. The bathroom offers a bath with shower attachment and a separate shower enclosure. TV.
Bedroom Montaigne
Is air conditioned and has a large King bed (180cm x 190cm) and a bathroom with an Italian shower. TV.
The bedrooms La Boétie and Montaigne have one separate WC to share.
Bedroom Mondane
Enjoys a large King bed (180cm x 190cm) in this air-conditioned room, its bathroom is equipped with a multi jet shower. Separate WC.
The Fénelon Suite
This air-conditioned room has a large Imperial bed (200cm x 220cm) and a private lounge with TV. Bathroom with free standing roll top bath and a separate shower enclosure. Independent WC.

The Swimming Pool – Garden
The garden and swimming pool terrace offer exceptional views over the valley and Le Château de Fénelon. Summer evenings, dining poolside under the covered area is an unforgettable experience.The 50m2 heated swimming pool (5m x 10m) is secured with railings, two gates and has an electric slatted security pool cover NF P90 308. The salt water is treated without the addition of chlorine. The pool is heated from mid May to mid September.
The Courtyard
The small terrace is perfect for breakfast in the morning sun.The pretty paved courtyard, adorned with a fountain provides access to the swimming pool and chapel.
The Chapel
In the courtyard there is a private, detached 17th Century chapel (70m2) which is now used as a non-religious multifunctional space. It is heated and has a a "HK Lucas Performer" music system allowing guests to enjoy their choice of music in high and professional definition with excellent acoustics. The Chapel is furnished as an elegant dinning space with dinning table and chairs. Ideal for a blessing, exquisite dining room, private concert and dancing etc.Capacity : Approximately x30 seated or x60 standing guests.

La Petite Maison is a small, air-conditioned property situated just a few steps away and is available to rent when in conjunction with La Métairie. Thus providing an extra bedroom. Le Prieuré is spectacular! The house is gorgeous, comfy, clean and incredibly well maintained. It really feels like you are staying in a castle! The grounds are perfectly manicured and the view is breathtaking. This was my third trip to the house, and I will definitely be back. The friends I brought with me this time are already planning to return (without me!). I have stayed in multiple 5 star resorts around the world and Le Prieuré ranks up there with them. Caroline, Marianne, and Sharon are lovely, helpful, and incredibly responsive. I can't recommend this property enough!

This property lies in the Périgord Noir; with Sarlat as its shining centre. It is a beatiful area with many tourist attractions. We have visited most of the Dordogne tips together with our children.
