The historic manor house has been lovingly restored and equipped with all the modern comforts of home. The building, its location, the attractive furnishings and the many benches and unexpected places in the garden create the ultimate WOW feeling! According to sources, the Chartreuse was originally built around 1680 as a hunting lodge for wealthy gentlemen. In 1701, it became the property of the Marquis de Fleurac, Seigneur de Rouffignac. Around 1730 it became a forge, producing huge iron boilers for sugar production in the French Caribbean and cannons for Napoleon’s army. The lake next to the forge was created to supply the forge with water. Production ceased at the end of the 19th century. Today, the former forge is considered the most important building of its kind in Périgord.

Restored to its former glory, it is the perfect place for a group of friends, a family reunion or an anniversary party for up to 20 people. Secret du Roi occupies two adjoining buildings and has been furnished according to an interior design by Agnes Tynan. The main house has six air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The annex has four bedrooms, also with en-suite facilities. A charming detail: all the bedrooms are named after plants growing on the estate. Both spacious holiday villas have their own kitchen with a large dining area, a living room with a fireplace and a bedroom on the ground floor.

The estate is rented exclusively to one group at a time, so you will only share the facilities with members of your own party. The extensive and luxurious facilities include a gym, training studio and sauna. There is also a wide range of games for children and adults, including board games, table tennis, bocce, badminton, croquet and more.

The stunning grounds are just waiting to be explored! The River Manaurie runs through the beautiful gardens, and the former reservoir is now a tranquil fishpond with carp and trout. Cross the small wooden bridge to the wisteria-covered pergola. Under the pergola is a spacious dining area with barbecue. There is no more romantic place for a festive dinner or a lavish evening of dancing!

Beyond the pergola is the large heated swimming pool with pool house, where you and your fellow holidaymakers can enjoy this wonderful, unforgettable stay in peace and privacy!

Don’t feel like cooking and would like some help? The caretaker will be happy to help. On the first evening of your stay, he will spend some time with you to answer all your questions, discuss some practical details and help you make the most of your stay. They can arrange everything from continental breakfasts to bike hire, yoga/Pilates sessions, massages, wine tastings and restaurant recommendations. There is also the option of hiring one of the region’s talented chefs for lunch and dinner. Please enquire in advance!
