Upon arrival, a majestic avenue of Lebanese cedars will lead you to the courtyard of the main building with the holiday residence, while the wings accommodate stables, an orangery and cellars. An imposing balustrade crowns the east wing terrace. The castle’s historic character has not only been preserved exceptionally well on the outside but also on the inside. The arc-shaped vaults, pillars, tiled floors, four-poster beds, carved door frames and majestic Louis XIV fireplaces, together with the stylish interiors, create a warm and peaceful atmosphere.

The castle is fantastic for children, because it feels big and exciting due to the many rooms and long corridors. Great to run through with a doll pram. The living room with its crystal chandeliers, vaulted ceilings and multimedia equipment offers beautiful acoustics for both musicians and lovers of music and games, so your children can also enjoy themselves here. The spacious kitchen (42m²) has professional equipment, which will inspire you to prepare lovely meals that you can serve in the dining room on the large hunting table with Villeroy & Boch crockery and Christofle cutlery. The romantic garden is planted with towering trees (including a 300-year old chestnut tree) that will provide shade on sunny summer days. It reminds us of a lovely French film with a homely covered long table, fine wines and a bouquet of flowers. The large heated swimming pool with teak sun terrace is also very popular with young and old! Here you can enjoy the magnificent view of the Dordogne valley, while your children have a good time playing table tennis, football or badminton.

History
Château de la Poujade has been in the possession of the old nobility for centuries, such as the Saint-Ours, Greenwell and Commarque families. During the Second World War, Gerard Commarque, the father of the current owner, was an active member of the French Resistance. For example, he gave shelter in the castle to a number of families in hiding and he communicated with other members of the Resistance through his own radio transmitter. After his death, the headquarters of the Allies and the politician André Malraux found accommodation in La Poujade. This was also a perfect place for a number of well-known museums, including the Paris Louvre, to rescue several important French paintings.
