Located in the north of Dordogne in the Périgord Vert, the Grotte de Villars is known for its magnificent stalactite formations and ancient petroglyphs that take you back to the ancient Stone Age, some 19,000 years ago. As you walk through the corridors of the cave, you will discover magnificent stalactites and stalagmites rising from the ceiling and floor in all shapes, giving you the feeling of stepping into a fairytale world.
What makes the Grotte de Villars extra special are the prehistoric paintings on the walls. One of the most impressive drawings shows a horse; in addition, there are also depictions of imposing bison and human figures, offering a glimpse into the lives of our distant ancestors.
Guides will take you around and tell you more about the geology, archaeology and secrets of the prehistoric artists.
