Located in the beautiful Vézère valley in the Dordogne, La Roque Saint Christophe is an impressive limestone cliff that rises 80 metres above the river. This 1-kilometre-long cliff is home to caves and terraces that were inhabited by humans thousands of years ago.
What makes La Roque unique is that it was used by prehistoric people as well as in the Middle Ages. The excavated shelters served as dwellings, storage areas and protection from enemies.
During your visit, you can wander among the remains of old houses, forges and a medieval crane system that carried goods to the higher terraces.
La Roque Saint Christophe is a fascinating place where nature and history come together.
